Add a loaf of artisanal bread for $10 / week.
Crusty sourdough. Hearty rye. Rustic wheat. Each week, we partner with Lyon Bakery, a popular local bakery in southwest Washington, to provide a fresh-baked loaf of bread that compliments the contents of your From the Farmer delivery. Like our baskets, each loaf is handcrafted from only the best locally sourced ingredients. Because, yeah, that’s kind of our thing.
Can you tell me more about what goes into each basket?
Our baskets are built to include 6 to 10 seasonal varieties that have been harvested at the peak of freshness—and we mean that literally. Each From the Farmer delivery is hand-selected based on discussions with our farmer partners as they're in the field surveying their crops and harvest, and most items are delivered within just 48 hours of being harvested. Dig details? Us too. That’s why we also send an email each week detailing what's in your basket, as well as storage tips and recipes for each item.
How does the delivery work?
We deliver From the Farmer overnight—between midnight and 7am—and leave our fancy insulated baskets in a safe designated location of your choice. Each delivery basket is easy to carry and simple to collapse, so you can store it away until the next week when we’ll exchange it for a new full one. Live in an apartment? No sweat. We’ll help you find a secure way to receive your deliveries.
What’s the deal with the whole ‘no commitment’ thing?
Basically, we understand not everyone needs a delivery each week. Whether you’re going to be out of town or your schedule calls for dining out, we only want you to get deliveries From the Farmer when you want them. As a customer, you’ll have access to manage your delivery schedule online, and suspend or activate deliveries with a single click. Just say when—it’s that simple. And if you’re not satisfied after your first delivery, we’ll give you your money back.
Is all of your produce organic?
In short: No. Not all of the produce offerings in your From the Farmer delivery fall under that classification. Our farm partners do, however, use integrated pest management techniques to manage their farms, which is perhaps the best local alternative. We’ve been surprised to find lots of foreign organic produce in our local markets, but we believe in supporting local family-owned farms and focusing on nutrient-rich local produce.

"The produce, without fail, is AMAZING. Everything in my basket always looks fresh and edible. I LOVE the weekly emails detailing what will be in your basket and different recipe ideas for each item. I am not a very experienced cook so the tips on how to store each item are very helpful as well."
"Living in NYC, there was a plethora of CSA to choose from, and I was never disappointed. When I moved to DC 2 years ago, I went searching for a local one. I tried two, and both had terrible produce and worse customer service. So excited to find from the farmer - always fresh, diverse, plentiful and delivered to my door. What's not to love?"
Be local, passionate, sustainable, and connected.
We choose our farm partners as carefully as we choose the produce we deliver to you. And we base our decision on four key ingredients—location, passion, sustainability, and community.
Be Local: When we say “local,” we truly mean local. From the Farmer to your door, our produce goes through a single distribution center to minimize our carbon footprint and ensure you get the freshest produce of the season. If it doesn’t come from within 100 miles of Washington, DC, we won’t serve it to you.
Be Passionate: Many attributes can further describe passion—dedication, attention to quality, a desire to share with others, an adventurousness... From the Farmer cares about all those things and that’s why we only partner with farms that love what they do and take pride in their work.
We believe in family-owned and locally grown.
You order the “usual” from your barista, you won’t trust just any barber to cut your hair, and your postman always gets a holiday card. Things are getting personal. And, in that way, we’re always striving to offer opportunities to let you know the individuals behind the food you eat.
The family-owned farms we partner with are all located within 100 miles of our delivery area in Washington, DC, passionate about cultivating and harvesting only the best, tirelessly aiming for perfection in the care of their land, and invested in where their food ends up. Meet your local farmer and participate in cultivating the season’s harvests at our next From the Farmer event.
